In Cooperation with: Lydia Wong Yi Chee, Ler Kai Guan, Ooi Tjin Qian, Foong Pey Jie, Ho Hui Jiun
Project type: Urban Planning
Project Site: Georgetown (Part of Core Zone)
Duration: 2 weeks
Project Brief:
According to Kevin Lynch (1960) – <The image of the city>, an urban city was designed by 5 essential elements: Path, Edge, District, Node, and Landmarks. In this project, we have to observe, analyze, and criticize part of the Penang Heritage core zone by referring to the 5 elements. Several proposals are made according to the observations about the street conditions, road size, architecture, human culture, ethnicity, etc. Finally, the proposal is used to solve the urban problems faced by Georgetown, such as vehicle congestion, unfriendly pedestrian walkway, heat island effects, and city planning.
